Terms of Service for Text Messaging and Email
Bonnie Connor, PhD — Patient Text Messaging and Email Program
Last updated: November 3, 2026
These terms explain how my practice uses text messages and email to communicate with patients. By giving me your mobile number or email address and agreeing to receive messages, you accept these terms.
What you will receive
Text messages are limited to:
- Appointment reminders, confirmations, and scheduling changes
- Requests to complete intake or other patient forms, with a secure link
- Notices that a balance, such as a deductible, is due, with a secure payment link
Email comes from my HIPAA-compliant secure email service and covers the same topics, plus delivery of an electronic copy of your final evaluation report.
I never send marketing or promotional messages by text or email.
How you sign up
You agree to receive messages by checking the text and email consent box on my patient forms, or by telling me directly that you agree. Consent is optional. It is not a condition of receiving services from me, and you may choose phone or mail instead.
How often
Message frequency varies. Most patients receive 5 to 10 text messages per evaluation, depending on scheduling, forms, and billing.
Cost
Message and data rates may apply, depending on your mobile phone plan. I do not charge for messages.
How to stop or get help
- To stop text messages, reply STOP to any message. You will receive one confirmation text, and then no further texts. To rejoin, reply START.
- For help, reply HELP, or call my office at 530-750-1700.
- To stop email, call 530-750-1700 or reply to any email asking to be removed. I will still send required notices by mail.
Privacy and security
- Text messages are kept short and do not include diagnoses, test results, or clinical details.
- Emails that contain your report or other health information are encrypted.
- Your mobile number and consent are never sold, rented, or shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties.
- My full privacy practices are described in my Notice of Privacy Practices and Privacy Policy.
Risks of electronic communication
Even with secure systems, email and text messages carry some risk. Messages could be seen by someone with access to your phone or email account, or sent to a wrong number or address you gave me. Please tell me promptly if your phone number or email address changes. If you share a device or account with others, consider whether phone or mail would be more private.
Not for emergencies or clinical questions
Text messages and email are not monitored around the clock and are not for urgent or clinical matters. In an emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. For a mental health crisis, call or text 988. For questions about your evaluation or results, please call my office.
Your responsibilities
You confirm that you are the account holder or authorized user of the mobile number and email address you provide, and that you are 18 or older. A parent or legal guardian must consent for a minor.
Delivery
Mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Message delivery depends on your carrier and service and is not guaranteed.
Changes to these terms
I may update these terms. The current version will always be posted at bonnieconnor.com/terms.
